Shocking Diagnosis

In October of 2007, Kelly Andrews was a healthy and happy 27 year-old working to end long-term homelessness in Minnesota. She was excited to be purchasing her first home and thinking about graduate school.

In early November 2007, she thought she had a cold. After a month of symptoms, she woke up with trouble breathing. She went to the ER. An 8 cm mass was found in her lung.

After a biopsy, she was diagnosed with Non-Small Cell Lung cancer.

The diagnosis shocked everyone -- including medical professionals. She has never smoked and is a vegetarian. Her situation is statistically very rare.

The fight has not been easy. Radiation has decreased the original tumor, but the cancer has spread.
